State-Local Cigarette Tax Rates Campaign for Tobacco Free Kids -
July 1, 2008 Maine
has recently increased its tax rates. The attached fact sheets give additional
information on cigarette tax rates across the country, with 13 states now with
state cigarette excise taxes at $2 or higher. The
highest combined state-local tax rate is now $4.25 in New York City, with
Chicago, IL second at $3.66 per pack. Kansas has now slipped into 33rd
place for state cigarette tax levels.
